Get Your Shave On For St. Baldrick’s Foundation

March 4, 2015 By Jen Chase

When Team TJS awoke this morn we’d thought we’d be teasing the TJS newsletter that’s landing in your inbox tomorrow (‘cause if it’s the first Thursday of the month, must be TJS newsletter day!); but we’ve got bigger and better news:

We’re giving away free juice.

(Whaaa?)

Beelieve it, Beeauties! All month long, The Juice Standard (TJS) is treating everyone to free juice who shaves their head in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a national org that raises money for cancer-curing research for kids.

Letusjustsay we.heart.St. Baldrick’s. Since so many children lose their loverly long and short locks during treatment, in 1999 St. Baldrick’s found a fun and meaningful way to help kids feel more supported. And through its more than 4,000 head-shaving events across the country, friends, fam and generous St. Baldrick’s supporters take it allll off after raising money from the people in their life who thought they’d never do it. (Right?! Let’s call a spade a spade here, folks! Most people wouldn’t willingly shave their head…talk about an act of love). St. Baldrick’s then takes all the moolah from the new baldies and gives it as grant money wherever the medical community needs it most (mostly research hospitals).

Bald is bee-autiful, peeps! It’s scary to think about facing the world without the hair we sometimes hide behind and don’t even know it…but that fright is nothing compared to how a child may feel about not seeing his or her next bday.

So: Shave your head in March at a St. Baldrick’s event, tag TJS in whatever selfie you post of your bald-ass self to social media, and get a free Bee Pure or Bee Vibrant (both tasty takes on a classic lemonade). And for those of you who have a huge heart but just can’t grab a razor, TJS is now sporting a donations jar at the Ft. Apache store. Plus, if you bring in your clean used bottles you can donate the dollar you’d get back for your recycling straight to the St. Baldrick’s jar.

We heart charity, and we heart St. Baldrick’s. If you do too, there’s nothing we’d like to do more than honor your attempt to bee WHealthy with your spirit (and vanity!) but showering you with some free juice. Hope to see you!

February Is Heart Month, So Love Thyself First

January 28, 2015 By Jamie Stephenson

HeartHealth2As the adage goes, you can’t love someone else until you love yourself. So since February is the month of love, what better way to show your love than to take care of home and explore a little self love?

If you have a hard time thinking of where to start, showing yourself some love, first, can be done in baby steps:

Step 1) Try hitting the gym to get your heart rate up and your blood circulating (it helps the bod purge toxins through the skin by sweating, and strengthens the heart and self-esteem at the same time).

Step 2) Employ the 80/20 rule to help boost your self esteem. Never heard of it? The 80/20 states that to maintain your overall health and your looks in a way that makes you feel good about yourself, it takes 80 percent diet and 20 percent exercise. So do what you can in Step 1 to help achieve Step 2.

Step 3) Eat real food.

That last one is especially near and dear to us. Because it’s no secret that we here at The Juice Standard beelieve that drinking raw, fresh cold-pressed juice made from organic produce is incredibly nutritious because it contains real food…you’re just drinking it instead of chewing it. Juice is easily absorbed into the body with help from its active plant enzymes and phytonutrients. And it heals you and sustains you on a cellular level in ways that would blow your mind. (Want glowing dewy skin, a slim-feeling tummy, increased energy for bedroom romps (it’s the month of LOVE after all) then consider The Juice Standard!)

With all the love going ’round this month, it only makes sense that February is National Heart Month! And as it turns out, TJS loves hearts, too. That’s why we load our juices with ingredients like red radish, cucumber, celery, and raw cashew, to keep your ticker pumping nice and strong! How? Red radish is a great source of anthocyanins, a type of flavonoid that is also found in red wine that not only gives the powerful root its color, but has been linked to reducing the occurrence of cardiovascular disease by reducing inflammation – hence the term, an apple a day keeps the doctor away (apples also contain anthoncyanins, FYI).

So yes: Love thy neighbor? Absolutely. But love thy self first. And what better way than through juice.

Setting Goals for the New Year

December 22, 2014 By Jamie Stephenson

Dear Honey Bees,

With the New Year upon many are thinking about their resolutions for the New Year. It’s a time for letting go of the things that we may be holding onto that no longer serve us. At the same time, it’s also the perfect opportunity to bring in that which we do want and desire most.

Here are some great ways to set, achieve and maintain your goals for 2015:

Meditation. Meditation is a great prelude to setting your goals. Sit in a quiet spot and begin to breath deeply and fully. Just become aware of your breath. If other thoughts begin to arise, simply (without judgement) bring your awareness back to the breath. After a minute or so, ask yourself the 4 soul questions according to Deepak Chopra:

  • Who am I?
  • What is it that I truly want or desire?
  • What is my purpose in life (can also be stated as ‘how can I serve?’)
  • What am I grateful for? These questions are a great foundation and starting point for setting goals that are meaningful and worthwhile.

Write down your goals. After extensive research about what successful people do on a daily basis, there were a few similarities almost completely across the board – two of which were meditation and setting goals. Use a note-taking app like evernote and don’t hold back.

  • Try the train of thought exercise. Just write down what comes to your head without a filter. Don’t stop writing for about 5 minutes.
  • Go through your list and prioritize. Choose 1 or 2 main goals for the year and what you would like to accomplish for the day, week, month, quarter and year.
  • Be Specific. Instead of writing down things that are vague like “I want to start a business”, try something more concrete like, “ I want to own a yoga studio that holds ‘x’ amount of classes per day with ‘x’ amount of students per class.” State the size of the studio and how many rooms would be in it. What forms of yoga will you teach? How many employees will you have? Do you sell merchandise? Do you have a website where you sell merchandise online? Do you have guest speakers and if so how ofter? What will they teach? How much revenue will you make in one year?…You get the point.

State your Obstacles. Once you clearly know what your obstacles are, you can more easily devise a plan to conquer them. Be realistic and list everything that could be holding you back from your goals. They can be external influences, but more often than not, they are internal beliefs that with a simple acknowledgement, can be shifted – opening you up to new possibilities, new perspectives, new ideas, and a whole new life.

Ask “How will I accomplish my goals?” What are the steps you need to take to make your dreams a reality? Make a list of all the avenues and connections you can go through to make it happen.

Share your goals (but only to those that support you wholeheartedly). Get feedback on your ideas. Ask your good friends and family for their suggestions. Ask them to hold you accountable and check in for updates on your path towards completion.

Believe it into existence. If you can ‘see’ it, you can ‘be’ it. Know that ANYTHING is possible and don’t let negative thinking or anything else get in your way.
